The man from Oklahoma wants to keep the Sonics in the Seattle area. Renton’s not too far away, at least it’s not Oklahoma City. But there are obstacles, according to the Seattle PI:
It would be nearly impossible to pass the tax package without support from Speaker of the House Frank Chopp, D-Seattle, who has said his caucus isn’t interested and that the money should go to education and health care.
If the Legislature authorizes a tax package that does not include a public vote, opponents say they’ll file an initiative to block the deal and King County Council Chairman Larry Phillips has told state leaders he’ll block the necessary county tax increases.
The land Bennett said he wants to build is apparently not for sale. The Boeing Co. owns the roughly 22 acres that the Sonics want, but a Dallas-based developer, Harvest Partners, has the first right of refusal to buy the property. And Harvest Partners on Tuesday gave no indication it was willing to sell.

Well, I guess we can forget about those signature update forms from the county. The Gov, after ducking the issue and insisting the decision go to the voters, has changed her mind. She’s put the kibosh on the tunnel deal and is moving ahead with replacing the viaduct.
And, the city is considering canceling the vote, but they can’t decide on that either. The mayor wants it, a couple of council members are thinking about cancelling it and a poll on the Seattle Times is definately against it.
Personally, I can’t say I’m disapointed since I’m one of the few who preferred the more fiscally reasonable plan. However, I am disapointment in our governments, city and state, who dillydally about, forever studying and researching, never acting decisively, always passing the buck.

Near the Market Theater and the Alibi Room in Post Alley is the affectionately named Gum Wall. I’ve been to the Abili Room…I just don’t recall seeing the gum. But, it was night-time and dark.
